FUNDAMENTALS OF FILTERING - SERIES 1
Filters are used to shape the spectrum of a source sound.

As the source signal passes through a filter, the filter boosts or attenuates selected regions of the frequency spectrum.

If the original sound is spectrally rich the filter can allow the engineer to sculpt the sound and dramatically enhance or change the original spectrum into a new variation of it or a completly new spectrum!
