1. What's going on in the world?
In New York. Did you know that the Interpretations series begins with Pulse
Percussion on January 8 and Mel Graves / Anne LeBaron on January 16? And
you certainly should know that Laetitia Sonami, with her amazing 'Lady's
Glove', is at The Kitchen on January 15 and 16!
In Paris. IRCAM opens its doors on January 31.
For details and links on these and other events, go to The EMF Worldwide
Guide at
http://www.emf.org/cal_frontdoor.html
List your events! Let the world know what you're doing. Have a look at
http://www.emf.org/cal_about.html

2. Latin America
Our spotlight this month is on Latin America, as suggested by our current
featured photo at
http://www.emf.org
It's Francisco Kropfl, at LIPM in Buenos Aires, with his 1967 synthesizer.
And what else is going on in Latin America? What music is available? Follow
the links at
http://www.emf.org/cde_frontdoor.html

3. A Historical Opportunity
1996 was a good year for beaujolais. It was also a good year for electronic
music history. So here's your chance to find out how we got to where we
are. There's a historical opportunity (so to speak) at
http://www.emf.org/cde_frontdoor.html
Check out the page for Joel Chadabe's 'Electric Sound'. We're accumulating
comments and addenda and if you'd like to contribute praise or criticism,
we'd like to hear it. The page is at
http://www.emf.org/store_electricsound.html
And please take note that 'Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey', which toured
commercial theaters a year or so ago, is now available as a videotape! Have
a look at
http://www.emf.org/store_orion.html

4. Thank you to our Charter Subscribers
Again and again, thank you to this group of people who helped us through
our first two years! Our Charter Subscriber list is now complete. The list
is at
http://www.emf.org/emf_csubs.html
If you'd like the list by email, let us know.

5. Help! Information, please
Do you know of recordings of music played with Ondes Martenot, Trautonium,
theremin, or other early instruments? Or musicians that use them?
If you do, we'd appreciate knowing about them. Please contact us at info@emf.org

6. Other aspects of the EMF site
Have a look at the Open Market for some of our distant musical cousins at
http://www.emf.org/om_frontdoor.html
Did you know that 'Sites, Sights and Sounds' is one of the most
interesting, complete and coherent web directories for the electronic
musician? Looking for something in cyberspace? Go to

7. Partner and sponsor news
Welcome to IRIS, the research institute of the Bontempi/Farfisa Group, as a
new EMF corporate sponsor! Located in a beautiful place south of Rome, in
Italy, IRIS has developed the MARS (hardware) / ARES (software) as a new
PC-based digital signal processing system. For explanations and
downloadable software, go right to the IRIS website at
http://aimi.dist.unige.it/IRIS/index.htm
And Happy birthday to Symbolic Sound's Kyma System, which as of November
1996 was 10 years old! As if to celebrate, Symbolic Sound announced a range
of new software objects, including a vocoder and RE analysis/synthesis for
realtime spectral modulation. For more information, go to
http://www.symbolicsound.com/press-releases.html

8. Information available by email
