Unit Two involves the study of the early philosophical influences leading to the creation of a new, technologically based, music. It is often said that Electronic Music is not a style, but is rather a technique. The early days of Electroacoustic Music were very much involved with a searching stance toward the next developments. The notion of the artist-scientist was born and contemporary musicians embraced this concept. Rusollo's famouns manifesto is an essential background for our study of the historic development of E-music. Cage and Varese also offered foundational concepts. Stockhausen, Berio, Cage and many others put these ideas into sound as we move into Unit Three.
