Unit Five as synthesizers became more powerful, smaller, cheaper and musically useful, more and more people began to adopt them for their creative expression. Yet, more was needed. As the synthesizer reigned supreme in electronic music there was a desire for more articulate instrument, more realism, more dynamic sounds and more expressive potentials. Researchers began to envision the melding of developing computer technology with the basic model for sound generation that the synthesizer offered thereby producing hybrid instruments. This was a first step toward the dawning of the age of computer music.
