Bio // Adam Overton

Adam Overton is a sound designer, composer and musician from Atlanta.  He has a degree in jazz performance from Georgia State University where he studied drums and percussion with Jack Bell and Woody Williams, and composition and computer music with Dr. Robert Thompson.  In January 2002 Overton formed the Electric Arts Alliance of Atlanta (EAAA), a collective of Atlanta-based musicians and artists working with electronic media.  This venture included the establishment of a monthly EAAA event at Atlanta’s Eyedrum art and music gallery where a focus has been placed on performance, discussion and collaboration.  Guests and performers at the monthly EAAA event have included intermedia artist Richard Zvonar, new media artist Dan Walsh, musician and performer Magicicada, and the multimedia group Figure 1.1.  Upcoming EAAA projects include the curation of an electric arts festival in November 2002, and the curation of a sound art “object” exhibition in January and February 2003.

Overton has been active in the electric arts since the Fall of 2001 and has composed music and sound for several events: Space: A 2001 Sound Odyssey (October 2001), a multi-media planetarium show at the Delafield Planetarium at Agnes Scott College; Shadows and Senses (April 2002), a 21-hour drawing marathon and art installation at Georgia State University; Going (May 2002), an adult puppet show by Lee Randall premiered at the 2002 XPT Festival at The Center for Puppetry Arts; and Intersections (June 2002), an intermedia dance and sound performance premiered at Atlanta’s NoNo gallery for the Fresh exhibition.  Overton is currently preparing a sound installation for the upcoming art exhibition, Earth (July 2002).

Overton is also the drummer for the rock band, Moreland Audio, whose debut record, Today’s Higher Revving Engines, is set to be released this Fall.
