Before you begin the CyberSpace voyage that this WebSite will facilitate, it may be interesting to take a bit of a virtual tour of the Center for Audio Recording Arts (CARA). This is the suite of teaching/learning/research recording studios situated on the 11th Floor of the Standard Building in the Fairlie-Poplar district of downtown Atlanta. CARA was designed and built to accomplish a number of tasks. Firstly, it is the home of the Audio Recording Technology program at GSU in the School of Music. This program trains audio recordists for entry-level jobs in the broadcast, recording and entertainment industries. At present the program culminates in a Bachelor of Music degree and is part of the Music Industry Program which also has a track in Music Management.. It is perhaps not surprising that the Music Industry program is the most popular in the School of Music among the students and currently has by far the largest enrollment.

CARA therefore serves as a teaching/learning environment for our students. It also serves the research goals of the School of Music Faculty in the creative musical disciplines of composition, computer music and performance. CARA produces numerous CDs every year of faculty and guest artists, student performance students and faculty composers. In this way, CARA serves the overall goals of the School of Music as a professional, research-oriented musical community of scholars and students.

It should be noted that few Schools of Music of the size and scope of GSU's have recording facilities that exceed CARA in terms of general usefulness and quality.
